Telling People You have Cancer

Cancer is not an easy topic to deal with. In fact, most people tend to hide the battle they are facing when dealing with such an illness. It is common for them to experience uncomfortable regard from other people like pity and hopelessness. This makes having the condition not as easy to deal with as you might think. To have that eerie attention you gain from people who know about the condition creates an emotional barrier between you and the people around you. However, this is not an excuse to invalidate yourself and the situation you are in. One way or another, you must figure out ways on telling people that you have Cancer.

When you know your cause is true, the battle will always be worth the fight. This goes the same for the people around you. Fighting Cancer is a challenging encounter. It drains you physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and financially. It is no doubt a consuming journey no matter how much you try to look at it. But bad things will always find their way to take you wholly, it always helps to have your family and trusted individuals be aware of this reality before this darkness will gobble you up.

"You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you." - Gus, The Fault in our Stars

Being in control over you and your emotions will provide you with a calming feeling of courage. Knowing that your loved ones are aware of your condition will give you that peace of mind when facing a tremendous foe, especially Cancer. You will know your true strength in your battle. Some may not be the same for others but it all boils down to being in control of the views and opinions you take from others as well as yourself. Telling people you have cancer is a challenge you are also to take on in your battles.

How You Get Back Up

Our lives are not as smooth as you may think. At times, the roads get rough and bumpy and all of a sudden, you feel as though everything in your life is falling apart. The things you are holding on to and the dreams you are hoping for suddenly disappear as the news of having an incurable illness haunts your very being. You wake up every day to see others living life as they are, healthily and happily, as you remain stuck in a prisoned-state you cannot escape no matter how hard you try. This is how illnesses destroy you, but this isn’t what matters. What’s important is how you get back up and see the world for the beauty it holds.

Once you’ve fallen down, standing up again will be quite the challenge. To address this issue, I have made a list of tips for you to remember whenever you’ve lost hope to stand again:

1. Know where you are

Being grounded in reality is a key factor that influences your mentality. Knowing where you stand can provide you the insight into what you need to do in order to overcome any adversities in life.

2. Remember what you are living for

Staying alive is a challenge for most people. We are haunted by forces that only we can understand ourselves. No one knows you better than yourself. But whenever you keep yourself motivated on the things you so willingly fight for, surviving would become thriving and you will see all the wonders humanity can give you.

3. Pray

Praying can bring you the hope that only a force greater than ourselves can provide. Acknowledging the fact that you cannot do it alone and asking for help will lift the weight on your shoulders tenfold. Our God is a good and gracious God. He does not leave us alone especially in times of need. Praying helps you to gain that spiritual strength to continue your journey towards the unknown future.

These three things are what encourage us to be mindful of the actions we’ve done throughout our lives. How you get back up is a trivial problem only you can solve. But these are the essentials we must take with us through every journey in every possible way, no baggage required!
